🥇 What Makes Us Different

Many agencies offer excursions to Pamukkale and Hierapolis with huge crowds or unclear itineraries. That can turn a once-in-a-lifetime site into a rushed visit with too many people around. Alpaca Travel operates differently:

  • Tailored for international travelers: We know what our guests value most: punctuality, clear explanations in fluent English, transparent information about schedules, an honest final price, and quality time at each site.
  • Skip-the-line access: We use electronic vouchers sent via WhatsApp or email. You do not need to print your ticket or waste time with unnecessary paperwork before the tour.
  • Authentic local experience: In addition to Pamukkale and the ruins of Hierapolis, the itinerary includes a cultural visit to a local traditional leather or textile workshop, a celebrated craft of this region.

The Ancient City of Hierapolis is located directly above the Pamukkale terraces and boasts remarkable archaeological ruins. Founded in the 2nd century BC, Hierapolis became a major center for healing and religion in antiquity thanks to its thermal springs, baths, healing rituals, and temples such as the Temple of Apollo. Most of the visible structures in Hierapolis today are of Roman origin. On site, you will see the ancient gates, the basilica, the Roman baths, colonnaded streets, the vast necropolis, the museum, and one of the best-preserved theatres of the ancient world.

🗺️ How Your Day in Pamukkale Works (Itinerary)

08:00 AM | 🚐 Pick-up from your hotel in Kusadasi

Your driver will pick you up from your hotel or the Kusadasi port. You will travel in a comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle, ideal for the approximately 2.5 to 3-hour journey each way. 10:30 AM | ⛰️ Arrival in Pamukkale & Guided Tour of Hierapolis

You will begin your visit at the travertine terraces (petrified waterfalls), where the white landscape looks just like cotton. The mineral-rich thermal waters reach temperatures of around 35 °C (95 °F).

We then continue to the Ancient City of Hierapolis with detailed explanations from your guide. You will see the basilica, Roman baths, necropolis, museum, and the magnificent Roman Theatre (with a capacity of over 10,000 spectators), one of the best-preserved structures on the site.

01:00 PM | 🍽️ Traditional Turkish Lunch

You will enjoy an included lunch at a local restaurant, allowing you to relax and recharge without wasting time searching for a place to eat on your own.

03:00 PM | 📸 Free Time & Optional Swimming

You will have free time to take photos, stroll at your own pace, and, if you wish, swim in Cleopatra’s Pool (Antique Pool). Swimming among ancient submerged Roman columns in thermal water requires a separate entrance fee on-site, while entry to the main Pamukkale & Hierapolis complex is already included in your tour.

05:30 PM | 🔙 Return to Kusadasi

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

Is it easy to walk around Pamukkale?

Yes, though some caution is needed. Certain areas of the travertine terraces can be wet and slippery. We recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes for the archaeological site and taking your shoes off when walking on the white travertine terraces, as footwear is not permitted on those surfaces in order to preserve them.

What should I bring on the tour?

We advise bringing sunscreen, sunglasses, and plenty of water, as the reflection off the white terraces makes the sun quite strong. We also recommend a hat, comfortable clothing, a swimsuit and towel if you plan to swim in Cleopatra’s Pool, and a small bag to carry your shoes while walking barefoot on the terraces.

Is Cleopatra’s Pool included, and can I swim in the terraces?

Full swimming takes place in Cleopatra’s Antique Pool, whose entrance fee is not included (it requires an additional payment of approx. 15 Euros on-site). On the white travertine terraces, conservation rules apply: designated sections are open for wading and walking barefoot in the shallow thermal pools, but not for full swimming.

What happens if it rains or my plans change?

The tour normally operates in light rain. In case of severe weather conditions, we will inform you of alternative options. We offer flexible cancellation policies; please contact us via WhatsApp as early as possible to review the exact terms for your booking date.

Can I book this tour if I arrive by cruise ship at Kusadasi port?

Yes, we organize pick-up directly from the port. However, before confirming, we carefully check your ship’s docking and departure times to ensure the itinerary fits comfortably within your port stay, as Pamukkale is about 2.5 to 3 hours away each way.
